based on the 80% DNA we share with chimpanzees. Through the artwork I tried to portray the similarities and how close we are genetically but still shows those obvious differences. I lined up the portraits and shifted the wood to display that disconnect of the DNA gap.

“Fur Fashion”

Painting is to display insight into the fur industry and what goes in behind every fur coat. I painted on watercolor paper with gouache paint, ripping the final product. I glued the ripped piece onto wood that was painted with the mink in a cage to show their part of the story of the coat. This idea came from vintage fur coat advertisement. The “ad” has cracks and rips reviling the true nature of the fur industry.

“Animal Testing”

I used acrylic paint layered on wood with layers of makeup (mascara, liquid foundation, eye liner, and lipstick) to create the hands. This painting is to portray the injustices in animal testing. By giving the rabbit a not so glamorous make over it shows the truths in animal cosmetic testing in a different, comprehendible way.

Portrays an orca whale in a fish bag similar to the one seen goldfish in. This is to make the connection of large ocean mammals stuck in captivity or show and human entertainment.

This piece is based on ivory poaching. I used spray paint on a plexiglass layer by using a stencil I created. The plexiglass layers over an acrylic painting I made to show the disrespect some humans cause to these animals the same way some graffiti cause disrespect. by poaching these sacred animals in many cultures by taking their ivory, many elephants now are evolving to be born without their ivory tusks.

Melissophobia Is the fear of bees, this piece takes the funny reactions of humans being scared of something so small into the realization we need what we are afraid of.
